TPiRecap: 4 July 2011 (4th of July & Season Finale Edition)

First off, Happy Independence Day to all Americans reading this! (And if you're not American, hope you're having a good Monday anyway!)

Before we get things rolling here, I have a few housekeeping notes. For the purposes of keeping records, today's episode will count as the final episode of Season 39. After this, my stats will be locked and no further updates will be made. Tomorrow I'll post a final "Year in Review" look at the numbers for the season, along with a comparison to Season 38 to find out just how we actually did in comparison. And yes, there are still two episodes being held in escrow for summer make-good airings, as well as a potential Back-to-School special in mid-August. I'll probably recap the special at least, but I'm uncertain about the make-goods, as they will likely air without prior warning on CBS.com. Whether I do or not, however, those figures will not be counted towards the Season 39 totals; in other words, I'll treat them the way primetime specials are treated, as their own entity separate from the canonical daytime series (even though they are daytime episodes).

So with that, let's set the master detonator switch to the ON position to kick off the fireworks, and celebrate the 4th of July the Price is Right way!

Well, if we're going out today, we're going out with our big guns firing - time to take our last walk down the Golden Road in Season 39, and hope it works out better than it has been the last... oh who am I kidding, the last few years since we last saw a winner:

Unfortunately, we can't say this was unexpected. Putting that pair of bikes (a fairly common prize as-is) in this situation is just begging for trouble, Big Four game or not.

Oh well, let's try to put this past us and move on...

I can't get too upset; I thought the sunflower seeds would be more in line with the rice's price, and vice versa. Still, this isn't going too well.

Cue card fun as we go to break.

Okay, let's see if we can turn this ship away from the iceberg now. For a change.

And that's a wrap, folks! Tune in to this blog tomorrow for the year-in-review stats post, and check back through the summer for possible TPiRetros and possibly recaps for the missing shows and/or the Back to School special in August. Other than that, however, that's all she wrote for Season 39 of The Price is Right!

Have a great summer, everyone, and we'll see you back here in September for sure for the start of The Big Four-Oh!
